Abstract

This article critically explores the intersection of culture, leadership, and spirituality in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, revealing how traditional practices—when misinterpreted or abused—have led to social fragmentation, exploitation, and human rights violations. By evaluating the historical and sociopolitical context of the Ibibio, Annang, and Oron ethnic communities, the work advances a redemptive strategy to challenge witchcraft-related violence, misguided religious authority, and uncritical ancestral worship. The paper proposes ethical leadership, legal reform, and technologically informed civic education as pillars for liberating the people from ignorance, fear, and systemic manipulation. The research concludes with a framework for policy change and leadership grooming that integrates indigenous wisdom, human rights principles, and critical thinking education.
